Video editing turnaround times, explained

“How fast can you deliver?” is the most common question editors get. The honest answer depends on a few things you control. Here they are.

Short answer

Turnaround depends on video length, complexity, footage quality, brief clarity, batch size and how fast feedback comes back. For short-form, a reliable monthly batch schedule matters more than how fast a single video comes back.

It’s usually the first question anyone asks an editor. Fair enough — nobody wants to wait. But the honest answer is that turnaround depends as much on how footage and feedback arrive as on how fast the editor is.

What determines turnaround

  • Length and complexity: motion graphics and heavy b-roll take longer than clean talking-head cuts.
  • Footage quality: clean audio and organised files save hours.
  • Brief clarity: clear references mean fewer revision rounds.
  • Batch size: a month of edits delivered in batches is planned differently from one urgent video.
  • Feedback speed: your review time is part of the turnaround too.

Short-form vs long-form

A single short-form edit is a much smaller job than a long-form YouTube video, but short-form is usually ordered in volume. The useful question is not “how fast is one video?” but “how reliably does my monthly batch arrive?”

How revisions affect timing

Each revision round adds a review cycle. Consolidated notes, a good brief and the same editor every month keep rounds to a minimum.

Plan so speed never matters

  1. Film in batches, two to four weeks ahead of posting.
  2. Upload footage as soon as it’s recorded.
  3. Review each batch in one sitting.
  4. Keep a buffer of finished videos so a busy week never leaves you empty.

Working across time zones

YASH EDITS is based in India (IST). For clients in the US, UK, Europe, Canada and Australia, that means footage uploaded at the end of your day can be worked on while you’re offline, with communication on WhatsApp or email. Start dates and delivery schedules are confirmed per project.
